WP-PostRatings works by presenting the user with a small rating system inserted in themes via a WordPress-specific PHP template tag.
There are several rating images that can be used, the default one being of the classical "stars collection".
Other voting system like the classic (+/-), thumbs up/thumbs down, numbered, or heart (love) are also supported.
Users can vote, and WP-PostRatings will automatically log their responses in the WP database.
Voting can be limited by user roles, IP, and cookie.
Also, whenever you don't need WP-PostRatings anymore, before deactivating the plugin and deleting it from your site, there's a special option to wipe the database of any voting-related information.
This avoids an over-sized, slow database, and improves the site's performance.
