Matriux-VM

Matriux-VM is a completely free and open source software project whose aim is to provide users with a virtual operating system for penetration testing operations and computer forensics investigations.

What is Matriux?

Matriux is an open source security Linux operating system that consists of a bunch of powerful, open source and free tools, which help users will to turn their system(s) into a state-of-the-art penetration testing toolkit.

Based on Debian GNU/Linux

Matriux is based on the Debian GNU/Linux operating system, and the software included can be used for various purposes, including, but not limited to, penetration testing, ethical hacking, system and network administration, cyber forensics investigations, vulnerability analysis, security testing, etc.

Among some of the most important applications that are included in the Matriux operating system, we can mention Wireshark, Angry IP Scanner, Vidalia, TrueCrypt, EtherApe, Nmap, Zenmap, Lime, HTTrack, and Aircrack-ng.

Compatible with VirtualBox and VMware

The Matriux-VM project is compatible with both Oracle VirtuaBox and VMware virtualization software. However, we strongly recommend to use VirtualBox, as it costs no money and it’s more compatible with the virtual machine format in which Matriux is distributed.

Distributed as a universal virtual appliance

The original Matriux Linux operating is distributed as a single Live DVD image, supporting both 32-bit and 64-bit architectures, that can be easily installed into a local hard drive. Matriux-VM is distributed as a virtual machine file archived using the 7zip (7z) format.

Getting started with Matrix-VM

When booting the Matriux virtual machine, the user will encounter a boot menu, which is identical with the one of the Live DVD edition, allowing users to boot the live environment with default options or in recovery mode, as well as to run a memory diagnostic test.
