TurnKey SimpleMachines Live CD is an open source and easy to install operating system based on the Debian GNU/Linux distribution and designed from the ground up to be used for deploying dedicated servers with the SimpleMachines software.
SimpleMachines is an open source and powerful forum system that is highly extendable thanks to its built-in Package Manager. The appliance includes upstream SimpleMachines configurations installed by default in /var/www/simplemachines, a Postfix email server for sending emails to users, as well as support for secure connections via SSL.
In addition, it comes with the phpMyAdmin software for administering the MySQL database server, as well as several Webmin modules for configuring the built-in MySQL, Postfix, Apache and PHP components.
While the default username for the MySQL, Webmin, phpMyAdmin and SSH components is root, the default SimpleMachines username is admin. During the first boot configuration process, you will be able to enter a password for the root (system administrator) account, a new password for the MySQL 'root' account, and a password and email address for the SimpleMachines 'admin' account.
Additionally, it is a must to enter the domain to serve SimpleMachines. The TurnKey Hub services, such as Domain Management, Dynamic DNS, Migration and Backup, can be easily activated during the first boot setup.
This TurnKey appliance is distributed as Live CD ISO images, one for each of the supported hardware platforms (32-bit and 64-bit), as well as ready-to-use virtual images for the Xen, OpenNode, OpenVZ, OVF and OpenStack virtualization technologies.
The ISOs can be written to USB flash drives or CD discs, and can be used to install the appliance on a local disk drive, as well as to just try it using the demo mode. The installation process requires users to partition the disk drive and install the boot loader.
Don't forget to write down the IP addresses and ports of the active services of this TurnKey appliance, which are displayed at the end of the first time configuration process.
