Linux Royal MATE is a free and open source distribution of Linux based on the world's most popular free operating system, Ubuntu, and built around the traditional MATE desktop environment. It is designed from the ground up to support low-end systems and computers with no more than 512MB of RAM.
Available for download only as Live DVDs
This Linux Royal edition is available for download only as Live DVD ISO images, of 2GB in size for the 32-bit version and 2.2GB in size for the 64-bit flavor. This means that the user must burn the ISOs on DVD discs or USB flash drives of 2GB or higher capacity in order to boot them from the BIOS of the PC.The Live DVDs feature the same boot menu that can be found on other Linux Royal editions, allowing the user to boot the live OS with default options or in safe graphics mode, start another operating system from the first disk, run a memory diagnostic test, as well as to install the distribution without testing it, which is something that we don't recommend.
Modern MATE desktop environment accompanied by XBMC
Once again, the bootable mediums are engineered to drop users to a login screen instead of going directly to the graphical installer, which means that the user must input the "royal" username (without quotes) in order to login. The default desktop environment is MATE, but the XBMC multimedia interface is also available on the display manager.Default applications include the Camorama webcam viewer, GIMP image editor, Inkscape vector graphics editor, Simple Scan and XSane image scanners, LibreOffice office suite, Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome web browsers, FileZilla file transfer client, Pidgin instant messenger, Steam for Linux, and Mozilla Thunderbird email and news client.
