Linux-EduCD is an open source and freely distributed Linux kernel-based operating system made in Poland. It is based on the KANOTIX Linux distribution, which in turn is based off of Debian GNU/Linux, and built around the KDE3 graphical desktop environment.

Distributed as a dual-arch Live DVD

The Linux-EduCD distro is available for download as a dual-arch Live DVD ISO image that has been successfully tested on both old computers supporting the 32-bit architectures and modern 64-bit machines. The default language is Polish.

Boot menu à la openSUSE Linux

While the Live CD boot menu is similar with the one found in almost all openSUSE-based distributions of Linux, it includes advanced options, such as the ability to start the live system in safe or console mode, or by copying the contents of the ISO image to RAM. In addition, it allows you to run a memory test or boot an existing OS from the local drive.

KDE includes Compiz desktop effects

KDE3 is in charge of the graphical session inside Linux-EduCD. It uses a traditional and familiar layout, includes Compiz desktop effects and various useful applets and widgets. Keep in mind though, that you must use the credentials displayed on the login prompt to to log in.

Comes pre-loaded with a wide range of educational software

Besides the KDE-specific tools, the Linux-EduCD operating system comes pre-loaded with a wide range of educational software. Among the most important ones, we can mention the OpenOffice.org office suite, Celestia planetarium software, OpenDX scientific data visualization software, PyMOL molecular visualization system, Rasmol molecular graphics visualisation tool, DrGeo geometric sketches manipulator and Yacas computer algebra system.

Includes many other open-source software projects

In addition to the above, the project includes many other open-source software projects, such as the GIMP image editor, Blender 3D modeller, Audacity audio editor, Xine multimedia player, Wireshark network scanner, Nessus vulnerability scanner, Iptraf IP network monitor, EtherApe graphical network monitor and Cheops metwork management tool.
