Legacy OS Mini (formerly TEENpup) is an open source and completely free operating system, a minimal edition of the Puppy Linux distribution specifically tailored for people who want a fast, small and quick OS for their legacy machines, computers with old and semi-old hardware components.

Distributed as a dual-arch, minimal Live CD

As expected from a minimal distribution of Linux, especially one based on Puppy Linux, Legacy OS Mini is distributed as a dual-arch Live CD ISO image of approximately 500MB in size, designed to support both 32-bit (i386) and 64-bit (x86_64) hardware platforms.

Features a minimal boot prompt that starts the live OS in 8 seconds

The Live CD features a minimal boot prompt that has been designed from the ground up to automatically start the live operating system in eight seconds from the moment the user boots the ISO image from the BIOS of a computer, using either a CD disc or a USB flash drive of 512MB or higher capacity. A comprehensive list of boot options can be accessed by pressing the F2 key at the boot prompt. As always, press the Enter key if you’re in a hurry!

Minimal, old-school desktop environment for legacy computers

To access the graphical desktop environment, the user must first select a mouse device and a keyboard layout from a list, as well as the display server of choice. The graphical session features an old-school look, it is powered by IceWM and comprises of a single panel located on the bottom edge of the screen, from where users can launch applications and interact with running programs.

What is new in this release:

• This release includes the Firefox and Opera Web Browsers with Adobe Flashplayer 11, Java 1.6.0_30 plugins plus media codecs for an excellent online experience. Also include is Skype and the Pidgin Chat Client for talking to friends on MSN, Yahoo, Aim and more. This release brings a good collection of Applications for managing a user apointments, Photo and Music collections. Watching Movies on your PC.
• Also included is FBreader and Foxit for reading ebooks etc. Those looking for Wifi support should have a better experience over Legacy OS 2. One small problem some users might find is that Legacy OS may not boot itself up Live on a PC with less than 512 Mb of Ram.
• While Legacy OS will run as a Live CD, it is meant to be installed to a user's hard Drive. I've tried to include a good mix of apps to keep the iso under 480Mb's in size, so apps like Open office have been left out due to their size. On future releases of Legacy OS I plan only to release a new version yearly or longer. My growing family needs have to come first and as Legacy OS is a hobby like all hobbies they sometimes have to be put on hold.
