BBQLinux is an open source distribution of Linux based on Arch Linux and specifically designed for people who want to build AOSP (Android Open Source Project) or AOSP-based mobile Android operating systems, such as CyanogenMod.
Availability, supported architectures, boot options
The distribution can be downloaded from Softoware as a 64-bit Live DVD or a 32-bit Live DVD, each one being deployable on both USB flash drives and DVD discs.From the boot menu, the user can start the live environment, boot an existing OS from the first disk drive, run a memory test with the Memtest86+ utility, view detailed hardware information, as well as to reboot or shutdown the machine.
Traditional MATE desktop for a productive environment
BBQLinux's desktop environment is powered by MATE, a clone of the GNOME Classic desktop environment, providing users with a traditional, two-panel layout graphical environment.While the user can easily and quickly launch applications and access system settings from the top panel, the bottom panel can be used for interacting with running programs and cycling between virtual workspaces.
Among the preinstalled applications, we can mention 7-Zip FM file manager, pluma text editor, Eye of MATE image viewer, Mozilla Firefox web browser, Zenmap network scanner, FileZilla file transfer utility, Atril document viewer, Evince document viewer, VLC Media Player, and GParted partition editor.
For the Android development part of the system, the BBQLinux developer included Android SDK (Software Development Kit), Android Studio development environment, Geany IDE (Integrated Development Environment), Meld merge and diff utility, and OpenJDK.
In addition, two in-house built tools will allow you to easily switch between different Java and Python versions. A graphical installer utility is also included for those who want to install the operating system on a local disk.
