Awesome Jessie

Awesome Jessie is a free and open source distribution of Linux based on the latest upstream release of the Debian GNU/Linux Jessie operating system and built around the awesome window manager, offering a perfect Debian-based OS for programmers and hardcore hackers.

Distributed as an awesome Live DVD

The distribution can be downloaded from Softoware or its official website (see link above) as a single Live DVD ISO images of approximately 1GB in size, which must be burned onto a blank DVD disc or written on a USB flash drive of 1GB or higher capacity in order to be booted from the BIOS of a PC. It supports both 64-bit and 32-bit instruction set architectures.

Awesome boot options

The Live DVD comes with an awesome boot prompt from where you can start the live environment with default boot options, in text-mode, without probing, without modeset, directly from RAM, start another OS with UnionFS, boot an existing operating system from the first disk, perform a system memory test, as well as to access a help menu.

Awesome window manager

As mentioned, the distribution’s main emphasis is on promoting the awesome WM, which provides users with a minimal, very fast and highly configurable next-gen window manager. Keep in mind though, that you must login with the “live” username/password combination and run the “startx” command from the shell prompt to start the graphical session.

Awesome applications

Default applications include the Geany Integrated Development Environment, GPicView image viewer, Iceweasel web browser, Xfburn CD/DVD burning software, BleachBit system cleaner, Bulk Rename batch file renaming tool, GDebi DEB package installer, and Synaptic Package Manager.
