4MLinux Multiboot Edition is an open source Linux distribution that allows users to install the Debian, Fedora, Slackware and Ubuntu operating system via network installers. It also provides users with the complete rescue edition of the 4MLinux distro.

Distributed as 32-bit and 64-bit Live CDs

It is the only 4MLinux edition that it’s distributed as two ISO images, one for the 64-bit architecture and another one for the 32-bit one. Both images can be written to a blank CD or on a USB flash drive.

Boot options

The boot menu of this edition is different from the other 4MLinux editions, allowing users to boot the 4MLinux Rescue Edition, or install one of the following Linux-based operating systems: Debian 7.4, Fedora 20, Slackware 14.1 and Ubuntu 13.10.

While the 64-bit version will install any of the aforementioned Linux operating system only on 64-bit machines, the 32-bit version will install them on both 32-bit and 64-bit compatible systems.

Installations are run in text-mode and require an active Internet connection

With the exception of Fedora, all the installations will run only on text-mode, which makes this distribution usable only for advanced users. Novice Linux users should install these distributions via their standard graphical installers.

On the other hand, it may come in handy if you tend to install any of the above distributions and you don’t want to carry so many DVDs or USB flash drives with you. However, a fast network connection is required for all installations.

About 4MLinux

The 4MLinux project includes many other useful flavors, such as 4MLinux Core, 4MLinux Game Edition, 4MLinux Media Edition, 4MLinux Rescue Edition, 4MLinux Server Edition, and an 4MLinux Allinone Edition, which contains all of the above.

In general, 4MLinux distribution can be used as a simple rescue CD for general system maintenance. But recent edition made it usable as a gaming system, a capable and secure server, or as a desktop system for multimedia tasks.

The project has been discontinued

As of January 24, 2015, the 4MLinux Multiboot Edition has been officially discontinued. It will no longer be updated and has been archived for historical references purposes only.
