4MLinux is a freely distributed, minimalistic and open source Linux distribution specifically designed to allow users to create Linux-based operating systems from scratch. This edition contains four of the 4MLinux editions.

Among the project’s official editions, we can mention 4MLinux NET Edition (also known as 4MLinux), 4MLinux Game Edition, 4MLinux Media Edition, 4MLinux Multiboot Edition, 4MLinux Rescue Edition, 4MLinux Server Edition, and 4MLinux Core Edition.

They are all available for download on Softoware, and can be used for general system maintenance, gaming and multimedia tasks, as a capable and secure server using the inetd daemon, to rescue broken systems, as well as to install other Linux distributions.

This edition includes four 4MLinux flavors

Even if it’s called 4MLinux Allinone Edition, this flavor includes only four of the 4MLinux editions, such as Media Edition, Rescue Edition, Game Edition and Server Edition. It is distributed as a single Live CD ISO image that can be written to CDs or USB flash drives. Both 64-bit and 32-bit architectures are supported at this time.

The boot prompt of the Live CD is very simple, allowing users to only start the live environment with default settings or using the VESA framebuffer, in case the first option does not recognize the graphics card.

Uses the same desktop environment as other 4MLinux editions, but includes numerous apps

Users will be asked to input a password for the root account, which will be used to log into the live session. However, the distribution will drop them to a shell prompt, from where they need to type the “startx” command to start the graphical desktop.

The desktop environment used in 4MLinux Allinone Edition is the same as the one used on other 4MLinux flavors, comprised of a system monitoring widget on the desktop and a bottom taskbar for launching applications and switching between virtual workspaces.

It is full of applications and games that will please everyone. Among some of the most popular ones, we can mention SMPlayer, DVD Shrink, Audacity, Mozilla Firefox, Wine, Mozilla Thunderbird, QupZilla, SeaMonkey, GParted, and others.

Bottom line

In conclusion, 4MLinux Allinone Edition is a true all-in-one Linux distribution that provides users with a great collection of games, servers, system rescue and multimedia applications in a minimal package.

What is new in this release:

  • This release has the same features as the basic version of 4MLinux, but it also includes 4MLinux Printing Suite (CUPS 2.0.2, SANE 1.0.24, Xpdf 3.0.4, Ghostscript 9.16) and 4MLinux QtPack (Qt 4.8.6 and 5.4.1, QupZilla Git-2014-04-08, SMplayer r6824). • The status of the 4MLinux 11.0 series has been changed to STABLE. Major changes in the core of the system, which now includes GNU C Library 2.20 and GNU Compiler Collection 4.9.2. The development of some of the 4MLinux editions has been dropped, but at the same time new 4MLinux spins have been announced. The most important one is 4MRescueKit, which has started its journey to become a lightweight alternative to other system rescue live CDs.

What is new in version 11.0 Beta:

  • This release has Wine 1.7.32, 4MLinux Printing Suite (CUPS 2.0.1, SANE 1.0.24, Xpdf 3.0.4, Ghostscript 9.15) and 4MLinux QtPack (Qt 4.8.6 and 5.3.2, QupZilla Git-2014-10-26, SMplayer r6556). What is new in version 10.1:

  • The status of the 4MLinux 10.1 series has been changed to STABLE. Lots of improvements, most of which are my response to various feature requests. Mozilla software (Firefox, SeaMonkey, Thunderbird) use the native Linux build of GTK (not via Wine anymore). Gnome Parted (aka GParted) is now included, while Dropbox and Opera are available as downloadable extensions. All web browsers (Firefox, Opera, Qupzilla, SeaMonkey) have Flash Player plugin enabled out of the box. Additionally, support for many printers and scanners has been added

What is new in version 10.1 Beta:

  • This release has Wine 1.7.29, which is able to run Mozilla software (Firefox 32.0, SeaMonkey 2.29.1, and Thunderbird 31.2.0) with Flash Player 15 support enabled. 4MLinux Printing Suite (CUPS 2.0.0, SANE 1.0.24, Xpdf 3.0.4, Ghostscript 9.14) and 4MLinux QtPack (Qt 4.8.6 and 5.3.2, QupZilla Git-2014-09-16, SMplayer with SMTube SVN r6393) are also included. • I do not use code names in 4MLinux, but if I did this would be "nerdy" for the 9.0 series. You can install development packages just in one click. Some of the packages (e.g. full versions of Python and Perl) can be used by both programmers and webmasters. An option to download and install the "vanilla" version of Clang with LLVM has also been added
