simpleCaptcha needs a PHP server to run correctly and is a good, safe way of preventing your forms from being abused by spam bots.
Because in doesn't rely on text recognition and requires an actual human reading the field to figure it out, the CAPCTCHA is very secure.
The concept behind it is very simple and is quite hard to script against by hackers.
Installation instructions are provided with the package's README file.
What is new in this release:
- This release fixes an issue with jQuery 1.4 which requires correctly formed JSON by default (whereas before it was loose in its rules by default). Note that this change occurred to the PHP file and not the JavaScript code.
- The only other change was to use the title attribute of the images for the hash versus the alt attribute so that the hashes don't show while images are loading.
Requirements:
- JavaScript enabled on client side
- jQuery 1.7 or higher
Limitations:
- Can only have one simpleCaptcha instance per page (can only have one active CAPTCHA per session)
- Inaccessible to the visually impaired
- No keyboard controls
- Requires PHP to run from
