jQuery.heroUnit automatically centers hero images, both horizontally and vertically.
If you don't know what a "hero image" is, don't worry. You've probably seen thousands of them by now and didn't know they were called like this.
They are huge, high-resolution images displayed in the header of a Web page, news story, or magazine article.
The problem with hero images is that they behave weird in responsive page layouts, sometimes not resizing or appearing with the photo's main focus point out of view.
The jQuery.heroUnit plugin fixes all this problems and allows developers with little experience with responsive Web design and CSS-based object alignments to support proper hero images that display in the center of their container, resized and perfectly fitted in the user's screen, regardless of his resolution.
The plugin is quite simple to setup and you can deploy it with ease of mind knowing it is also used in a production environment on the Artsy social network.
A demo is included with the download package.
Requirements:
- JavaScript enabled on client side
- jQuery 1.7 or higher
