The jQuery.bgsize plugin will let developers use the CSS3 properties of "background-size: cover" and "background-size: contain" without ever having to worry about the again.
While usually this produced really bad results in older browsers (and some new ones as well), the jQuery.bgsize plugin provides a JavaScript-based fallback system that ensures images work as they were intended to when writing the CSS3 code.
Support is included for responsive layouts, and the best thing about it is that developers won't have to change their HTML & CSS markup to work. Besides the lines of JS for loading and initializing the plugin of course.
jQuery.bgsize comes with basic examples to show developers how it can be implemented.
