jQuery.upload helps developers improve their file upload forms by adding AJAX support.
This practically means that when users select and upload a file, the operation is ran in the page's background and confirmation or warning messages are displayed inline without reloading the current page.
This is universally considered good UX and is recommended by all major companies, design and coding schools.
The jQuery.upload package contains only the client-side code of this process, but there's an example provided with the README file for the server-side as well.
