Quimup is an open source, cross-platform and free graphical software that has been designed to act as a client for the popular Music Player Daemon (MPD) command-line program. It aims to provide playlist management via drag and drop, as well as playback functions directly accessible from the system tray area.

Easily control your MPD server

The application provides a clean graphical user interface (GUI) that makes controlling your MPD server easily and intuitively, turning it into a perfect desktop music player for any GNU/Linux operating system and desktop environment. Among other interesting features, we can mention that Quimup supports album art and has been designed to be used only with a mouse device.

Getting started with Quimup

After installing Quimup using the below instructions, you should be able to open it from the Audio menu of your desktop environment. Users will be prompted by a welcome that notifies them that the application must access MPD’s music directory in order to find album art.

You can add files straight from your file manager, using drag & drop, into the main window. If MPD is not installed on your computer or it uses a custom configuration directory, you will get a warning dialog after closing the welcome dialog, so make sure that you go to the “Connect” tab of the Settings dialog and adjust the options accordingly.

Supported on Ubuntu, Debian, Arch Linux and openSUSE

Quimup is officially supported on major GNU/Linux operating systems, including Ubuntu, Debian, Arch Linux and openSUSE, with pre-built binary packages that can be easily installed through the integrated package manager of the respective distribution.

Under the hood

Looking under the hood of the Quimup project, we can notice that the C++ programming language has been used to write the code and the Qt GUI toolkit is used for the modern and attractive graphical user interface. Quimup is a cross-platform application, supported on all GNU/Linux operating systems (32-bit and 64-bit), as well as on the FreeBSD distribution.
