Xfce Mixer

Xfce Mixer (package name: xfce4-mixer) is a tiny piece of software that provides a volume control icon in the system tray area of the Xfce desktop environment. It is an open source source project based on the GStreamer media streaming library/multimedia framework.

How the program works?

The software was expressly crafted to integrate with the lightweight Xfce desktop environment via a plugin for the Xfce panel. It is designed to sit in the system tray area at all times. If a sound card is detected, it becomes active and allows users to modify the master volume, as well as the volume of the different audio tracks.

Getting started with Xfce Mixer

Xfce Mixer is usually installed along with any fresh Xfce setup, so you won’t have to install it separately. However, if it is not installed with Xfce, you can search the xfce4-mixer package in your distro’s software center and install it manually.

After installation, you must restart your current session for Xfce Mixer to appear in the system tray area. You will notice a volume icon, so click it to change the change the system volume, the volume of running apps that use the soundcard, as well as to configure sound settings.

Installing Xfce Mixer from sources

If you want to test the latest development version of Xfce Mixer or you want to optimize the software for your operating system/hardware architecture, simply download the latest source package from Softoware by clicking the download button above.

Save the archive somewhere on your Home directory, open a Terminal app and navigate to the location where you have extracted the archive file (e.g. cd /home/softoware/xfce4-mixer-4.10.0). Then, run the ‘./configure && make’ command to configure and compile the program, followed by the ‘sudo make install’ command to install it.

• Do not use G_VALUE_INIT which is only available in glib >= 2.30
• Translation updates: Dutch (Flemish), Japanese, Croatian, Portuguese, Spanish (Castilian), German, Indonesian, Ukrainian, Polish, Chinese (Taiwan)
