Voyage Linux is an open source and free distribution of Linux derived from the award-winning and highly acclaimed Debian GNU/Linux operating system, designed to be deployed on low-end computers, as well as on embedded systems, such as ALIX/WRAP, Atom-based boards or Soekris 45xx, 48xx and 65xx.

Features at a glance

Key features include support for computers with at least 256 MB or free disk space, built-in Wi-Fi support (prism54, ath9k, ath5k, hostap, madwifi, madwifi-ng, etc.), support for installing Windows network drivers through NDISwrapper, Wireless access point support in bridge or NAT (Network Address Translation) mode, and high extensibility through the APT package manager.

The distribution includes features from several Debian GNU/Linux releases, including Debian 3.1 (Sarge), Debian 4.0 (Etch), Debian 5.0 (Lenny), Debian 6.0 (Squeeze) and Debian 7.0 (Wheezy), and it is powered by Linux kernel 3.0 or 2.6.

Among other interesting features, we can mention watchdog, temperature reading, gpio, LED patch, wpa_supplicant and hostapd for WPA/WPA2 support, WDS support, nocatsplash support, and support for downloading non-volatile firmware and hostap txpower.

What can I use it for?

Voyage Linux can be used as a server to run the music player daemon software for streaming your entire music collection over the network or the Internet, as a VoIP server or gateway, as a Wireless mesh network, as a Wireless access point, as a Wireless captive portal, as well as a network/Internet gateway and firewall.

Distributed as 32-bit/64-bit Live CDs

The Voyage Linux project is distributed in multiple editions, as Live CDs that support the 32-bit (x86) and 64-bit (x86_64) instruction set architectures, and can be deployed on USB flash drives or CD discs, as they have only 60 MB in size.

Boot options à la Debian GNU/Linux

The Live CD boot menu is quite identical in functionality with the one of the official Debian GNU/Linux operating system, allowing the user to start the live system with normal configuration or in safe graphics mode, perform a system memory diagnostic test, as well as to view a help screen.
