VertexOS

VertexOS is an open source distribution of Linux based on the world’s most popular free operating system, Ubuntu, and built around the modern KDE Plasma graphical desktop environment. It is actually derived from the Kubuntu Linux distro.

It’s distributed as a dual-arch Live DVD

The operating system is available for download as a dual-arch and hybrid Live DVD ISO image that contains software packages optimized for both 32-bit and 64-bit architectures and can be deployed to either a DVD disc or a USB stick.

Redesigned boot menu with standard options

The boot menu has been redesigned to match the artwork of the VertexOS operating system, but it features the same options as the original one of the Kubuntu OS.

It allows the user to start the live system, test the system memory for errors, boot an existing OS from the first disk drive detected by the BIOS, as well as to check the integrity of the bootable medium (only if using a DVD disc).

When booting the live system, you will be prompted by an initial dialog from where you can choose between trying the live system without installing anything on the local drive or perform a fresh installation of the OS.

The KDE Plasma desktop is beautiful, well designed

Being based on Kubuntu, VertexOS uses KDE Plasma as its default and only graphical desktop environment. It has been highly tweaked to look good and be as productive as possible.

It features a single, black taskbar located on the bottom part of the screen, which includes quick access to all the folders on your Home directory, shortcuts to some of the best and popular applications, as well as various system tray tools.

Contains top-notch open source applications

Among the pre-installed applications, we can mention the SMPlayer video player, Skype VoIP client, Mozilla Firefox web browser, Pidgin multi-protocol instant messenger, Clementine audio player, GIMP image editor, BleachBit system cleaner, and VLC Media Player.
