Verbiste

Verbiste is a completely free and open source graphical software implemented as a library, two command-line utilities (can also be used with another program), and a GNOME applet, providing a French conjugation software for GNU/Linux operating systems.

With the Verbiste software, you will be able to easily conjugate verbs, as well as to analyze conjugated verbs to determine their tense, person, and mode, via a text field in the GNOME Panel. Its XML-based knowledge base contains over 7,000 French verbs.

Verbiste is a powerful French conjugation software that includes approximately 7000 French verbs. It has been designed from the ground up to allow users to select their preferred language for searching a verb.

Getting started with Verbiste

To install and use the Verbiste application on your GNU/Linux operating system, you will have to download the latest release (native installers for the Fedora distributions are available), save the package on your Home directory and unpack it using any archive manager utility or double click the RPM package to install it).

Assuming you’re installing Verbiste on a non-Fedora OS, you must open a Terminal emulator, navigate to the location where you’ve extracted the source package (e.g. cd /home/softoware/verbiste-0.1.41) and run the ‘./configure && make’ command to configure and compile the program. After a successful compilation, install it system wide by running the ‘sudo make install’ command.

What is new in this release:

• A user has ported the GNOME 2 applet to MATE. Verb choir now has a second present participle: cheyant. Verb sevrer has been fixed. The name of the conjugation model now appears in the results of the graphical application. The latter now points to the Wikizionario when the verb is in Italian.

• The PNG icons of several sizes, which were introduced witih version 0.1.39, are now pre-generated, so that compiling Verbiste does not require the rsvg-convert command.
• The config.guess and config.sub files, which are used to compile Verbiste, have been updated.
