Ultima Linux

Ultima Linux is a freely distributed and open source computer operating system designed from the offset to be stable, easy of use and reliable. It provides users with lots of penguin eye-candy built around the traditional and familiar KDE desktop environment. It’s derived from the Slackware Linux distro.

Supports 32-bit and 64-bit computers

The Ultima Linux operating system can be downloaded from Softoware as two Live CD ISO images, one for each of the supported hardware platforms, 32-bit (i386) and 64-bit (x86_64). Both ISOs fit perfectly on CD discs, but they can also be deployed to USB flash drives of 1GB or higher capacity.

Minimal boot menu with advanced options

The Live CD boot menu is minimal, allowing users to press the Enter key on their keyboard to start the live system with normal configuration. Experienced Linux users can press the F2 key to access a help screen with detailed information about available boot options.

The graphical session is powered by KDE 3.5

By default, users will be dropped to a login screen where they must use the “root’ username and the “root” password (without quotes) to log into the graphical session, which is powered by the KDE 3.5 desktop environment. It uses a single taskbar, from where users can navigate the main menu, launch frequently used apps, cycle between the four virtual workspaces, interact with running programs, as well as to access important system functions.

Includes a bunch of KDE-specific apps

Being built around the KDE desktop environment, the Desktop Edition of Ultima Linux includes a bunch of KDE-specific apps, such as the Dolphin file manager, KSnapshot screen capture program, KGet download manager, Konqueror web browser, KAudioCreator Audio-CD ripper, KMail email client, Amarok audio player and K3b CD/DVD burning software.

Comes pre-loaded with top-notch applications

In addition to the above, the distro comes pre-loaded with top-notch applications, including Mozilla Firefox, Mozilla Thunderbird, Pidgin, DeVeDe, Wireshark, Gslapt, Opera, GIMP, XChat, Zenmap, Xine and OpenOffice.org.
