SuperGamer Supreme

Supreme SuperGamer is a freely distributed operating system derived from the VectorLinux distribution, which in turn is based off of Slackware. It is designed as a collection of open source games for hardcore Linux gamers.

It’s distributed a a dual-layer, dual-arch Live DVD

Apparently, Supreme SuperGamer is the world’s first Linux kernel-based operating system that is distributed as a dual-layer Live DVD ISO image of approximately 8.5GB in size. It is a dual-arch ISO that can be used on both 32-bit and 64-bit computers.

Uses Xfce for the graphical session

The OS is built around the lightweight Xfce desktop environment, which has been highly tweaked and comprises of a top panel that acts as a taskbar and a bottom dock (application launcher) from where you can quickly launch your favorite games.

Contains a plethora of open source games

The Supreme SuperGamer operating system contains a plethora of open source games, for all ages and all genres. Among somg of the most popular ones we can mention Quake Wars, Doom 3, Prey, Unreal Tournament, Quake 4, Savage 2, Postal 2, Enemy Territory, Penumbra Black Plague, Sauerbraten and Urban Terror.

Additionally, the Soldier Of Fortune, Torcs, Tremulous, Alien Arena, True Combat, America's Army, Nexus, OpenArena, PlaneShift, Drop Team, Frets On Fire, Chromium B.S.U., Mad Bomber, X-Moto, BZFlag, Mega Mario, Glaxium, GL-117, NeverBall, NeverPutt, Super Tux and PPRacer games are also included.

Features a great set of desktop applications

In addition to the aforementioned games, the Supreme SuperGamer distribution features a great set of desktop applications, such as the Mozilla Firefox web browser, Azureus/Vuze BitTorrent client, GParted partition editor, LimeWire file sharing tool, GIMP image editor, K9copy DVd-Video ripper and converter, KOffice and OpenOffice.org office suites, as well as Hardinfo system profiler and benchmark.

What is new in this release:

• Firefox 4 beta, flash 10.2, vlc and all of the additional updated packages,
• kernel 2.6.27.57 with wireless rebuilt along with an updated wireless tools package,
• ndiswrapper updated and additional intel wireless modules, wicked updated,
• Limewire removed and Frostwire put in it's place, Soldier of Fortune was taken off
• as it didn't work with the new nvidia drivers and IconquerU game added along with the
• updated nvidia and ati drivers, fuse and ntfs 3g updated as well as ripperx and the
• addition of gogo encoder which is faster than lame. I also updated Java to 1.6.0_23

What is new in version 2:

• This Supreme SuperGamer 2 version will work on both 32 and 64 bit PCs and fills a full Live Dual Layer DVD. It includes support for ethernet, wireless, and dialup Internet connections. It can run in "Live" mode directly from the DVD and can be optionally installed to your hard drive. I also included the latest Nvidia and Ati drivers. A few key includes are 2.6.27.47 kernel, Azureus, Audacity, Gparted, Limewire, Gimp, K9copy, OpenOffice 3, Hardinfo (system profiler and benchmark) along with all the plugins for Firefox ( updated to 3.5.8 ) with adblock, betterprivacy and blockxxx included (blockxxx is a child word and website filter which is not enabled by default as it blocks alot of stuff). There where a lot of little bugs that have been fixed and addressed from the previous release and this is a worth while upgrade.
