Snowlinux MATE

Snowlinux MATE is a free and open source distribution of Linux based on the latest upstream version of the award winning Debian GNU/Linux operating system and built around the traditional MATE desktop environment, a GNOME 2 clone.

Available for download as 32-bit/64-bit Live DVDs

The MATE edition of Snowlinux can be downloaded from our website or from its official homepage (see link above) as two Live DVD ISO images, one for each of the supported hardware platforms (64-bit and 32-bit).

Minimal boot menu

The distribution uses the same minimal boot menu that is used with success in all Snowlinux editions. It allows the user to start the live environment with default drivers or in failsafe mode (in case some of your devices or hardware components are not recognized by the first boot option), run a memory test, as well as to boot an existing OS from the first disk.

Traditional desktop environment powered by MATE

The traditional desktop environment used in this special Snowlinux edition is powered by MATE, a traditional desktop environment forked from the classic GNOME 2 graphical interface. It uses a single panel layout and a modern main menu à la Cinnamon.

Powerful open source apps for everyday tasks

Default applications include the LibreOffice office suite, Totem movie player, Mozilla Thunderbird email and news client, Pidgin multi-protocol instant messenger, Pluma text editor, Rhythmbox music player, Shotwell image viewer and organizer, Transmission torrent downloader, and Synaptic Package Manager.
