Serenity Linux is an open source distribution of Linux based on the award winning Debian GNU/Linux operating system and designed from the ground up to streamline the process of using Kernel Virtual Machines (also known as KVMs).

Distributed as a dual-arch Live DVD

The operating system can be downloaded from Softoware or its official website (see link above) as a single, dual-arch Live DVD ISO image of approximately 1GB in size, designed to work with either 64-bit (amd64) or 32-bit (i386) instruction set architectures.

It is a must to burn the ISO image onto a blank DVD disc, using any CD/DVD burning software, or write it on a USB flash drive of 1GB or higher capacity in order to boot it from the BIOS of a computer.

Boot options

The Live DVD has been engineered to allow the user to directly start the live environment in graphical mode, in safe graphics mode or in text only mode, as well as to perform a system memory diagnostic test and boot an existing operating system from the first disk drive.

The easiest way to use Kernel-based Virtual Machines on Linux

As mentioned, the distro has been engineered in such a way that it is capable of streamlining the process of using KVMs (Kernel-based Virtual Machine‎s) on a wide range of computers. It is described by its author as an OS in an OS, oriented towards running multiple Linux-based operating system simultaneously.

Bottom line

Being designed to run multiple operating systems at the same time, Serenity Linux proves to be a stable and reliable distribution of Linux that uses the latest upstream Debian GNU/Linux technologies.
