quantOS

quantOS is an open source hardened Linux distribution derived from the Linux Mint operating system, which in turn is based on the Ubuntu OS, which in turn is based off of Debian GNU/Linux. It is built around the AppArmor (Application Armor) Linux kernel security module and the Tor anonymous network system.

It’s distributed as a dual-arch Live DVD

The quantOS distribution can be downloaded via Softoware or directly from its official website as a dual-arch Live DVD ISO image, which can be used on computers that support both the 32-bit (i386) and 64-bit (amd64) instruction set architectures.

The boot menu includes advanced options

Several advanced options are available on the boot menu, when booting the ISO image from the BIOS of a PC using a USB flash drive or a DVD disc, such as the ability to start the installer directly, perform a system memory diagnostic test, boot an existing OS from the local drive, as well as four different live modes.

The desktop environment is basic, easy to use

quantOS’ graphical desktop environment is powered by an old version of GNOME and has been designed to be as productive and easy to use as possible, comprised of a single taskbar located on the upper side of the screen, allowing you to easily interact with running programs, launch applications, as well as to access various system tray functions.

Contains a wide range of popular open-source applications

Among the pre-installed applications, we can mention the Mozilla Firefox web browser, KeePassX password manager, Tomboy notes, GIMP image editor, LibreOffice office suite, gThumb image viewer, as well as Pidgin multi-protocol instant messenger.

In addition, the Vidalia Tor GUI, Mozilla Thunderbird email and news client, XChat IRC client, Zenmap and Wireshark network scanners, Transmission torrent downloader, Banshee music player, Brasero CD/DVD burning software, Totem movie player, VLC Media Player and Ubuntu Tweak are also installed.
