QmidiCtl

QmidiCtl is an open source and free graphical application that can be used as a MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) remote controller which sends MIDI data over the network through UDP/IP multicast. It is written in the C++ programming language, using the Qt GUI toolkit.

Inspired by multimidicast software

Being inspired by the multimidicast software, QmidiCtl is designed from the ground up to be fully compatible with the ipMIDI application, which is developed for the Microsoft Windows operating system.

Supports Maemo-enabled handheld devices

QmidiCtl supports Maemo-enabled handheld devices, such as Nokia N900, but it also works well as regular application for your Linux-powered desktop environment. Packages for openSUSE, Fedora, Debian and Ubuntu operating system are provided in the download section above.

Easy-to-use, modern, and intuitive graphical user interface

The software’s graphical user interface (GUI) is easy-to-use, has a modern design, and it’s very intuitive. The menu bar is actually comprised of buttons, which when clicked will display standalone dialogs. There are 16 channels available, but only four at a time are displayed. Users can navigate between theme using the left/right arrow buttons

Therefore, you will be able to set the network interface and port to listen on, as well as to set the MMC device number from the Options dialog. In addition, you can configure each of the available commands (RST, REW, STOP, PLAY, REC, FFWD, JOG_WHEEL, TRACK_SOLO, TRACK_MUTE, TRACK_REC, TRACK_VOL) by choosing a type (MMC, NOTE_ON, NOTE_OFF, KEY_PRESS, CONTROLLER, PGM_CHANGE, CHAN_PRESS, PITCH_BEND), channel and parameter.

Getting started with QmidiCtl

Installing QmidiCtl on a GNU/Linux operating system is easy as 1, 2, 3. Begin by downloading the latest release (native installers are available for DEB and RPM-based distributions), save the package on your personal computer and install it with a double click. After installation, you will find the application on the Audio section of your desktop environment’s Start Menu.
