The "Populous.js" jQuery plugin allows a developer to load options in a drop-down select list from a remote stored JSON file.
While this might seem an over-kill for 5-6 options, Populous may be a real life-saver when dealing with drop-down selects that have hundreds or thousands of options.
Usage instructions are included with the package's README file.
