Piratocracy OS is an open source and completely free operating system that combines the world’s most powerful distribution of Linux, Ubuntu, with the award winning Debian GNU/Linux distro, and a lightweight desktop environment powered by LXDE.

Distributed as a dual-arch Live DVD

The distribution can be downloaded via Softoware’s secure servers or from its official website (see link above) as a dual-arch Live DVD ISO image of approximately 1GB in size, designed from the ground up to be deployed on either 64-bit or 32-bit machines.

Standard boot menu for an Ubuntu flavor

Being based on Ubuntu and Debian, the Live DVD features a standard boot menu that allows the user to start the live environment with default boot options or in safe graphics mode, directly start the graphical installer, perform a system memory diagnostic test, as well as to boot an existing operating system from the first disk.

LXDE, Openbox or GNOME/Openbox and KDE/Openbox

Besides the LXDE desktop environment, which is the default one for the Live DVD, the distribution also includes the minimal Openbox window manager or a combination of Openbox with the GNOME or KDE desktops. Keep in mind though, that the default username/password combination for the Live DVD is pirat/tarip.

Includes a great set of open source applications

Among the preinstalled applications, we can mention the BleachBit system cleaner and Mozilla Firefox web browser. The distro comes with various helpers, such as support for the Tor anonymous network, GPGP encryption, Vidalia support, etc., designed to keep your Internet experience anonymous and safe at all times.

Bottom line

in conclusion, Piratocracy OS is a decent Ubuntu-based operating system in which the main emphasis is on anonymity when downloading torrent files or browsing the Internet without worrying that you are being watched by governmental institutions.
