Otakux GNU/Linux

Otakux GNU/Linux is a free and open-source computer operating system based on the Linux kernel and derived from Ubuntu and Linux Mint distributions. It is built around the modern KDE Plasma graphical desktop environment.

Otakux supports only 32-bit applications

The operating system is distributed as a 32-bit Live DVD ISO image, which means that it contains only software packages optimized for the i386 architecture.

How to use the ISO image

The ISO image has approximately 1GB in size and must be written to a DVD disc or a USB flash drive of 2GB or higher capacity in order to boot it from the BIOS of a computer. Use a CD/DVD burning software to write the ISO on a DVD disc and UNetbootin or GNOME Disk Utility (Disks) to write it on a USB stick.

The user can start the live system or a memory test from the boot menu

The boot menu is quite minimalist, providing users with the ability to start the live system or perform a system memory diagnostic test. In addition, you can reboot the machine.

KDE Plasma looks great, with a modern layout

The KDE Plasma desktop environment uses a different layout from the default one, as it comprises of a transparent panel and dock (application launcher). While the panel is located on the bottom edge of the screen, the dock is intelligently placed on the left side of the screen.

Applications, lots of applications

Among the pre-installed applications, we can mention the VLC Media Player, K3b CD/DVD/BD burning software, Wine Windows software emulator, GIMP image editor, Pidgin multi-protocol instant messenger and WinFF video converter.

In addition, the Opera and Google Chrome web browsers, Okular document viewer, Audacity audio editor, KTorrent torrent downloader, OpenProj project management, LibreOffice office suite, ISO Master CD image editor and Clementine audio player are also included.
