LxPup is an open source Linux distribution built around the LXDE desktop environment and based on the Puppy Linux operating system. It is designed to be used on low-end computers and old hardware.
Distributed as 32-bit Live CDs for PAE and non-PAE systems
It is distributed as two Live CD ISO images, one for 32-bit PAE (Physical Address Extension) hardware platforms, and another one for non-PAE machines. They can be deployed onto a USB thumb drive or written on blank CD discs.
Boot options
The boot medium will automatically start the live system in five seconds if you don’t press the F2 or F3 keys for accessing advanced boot options. The LXDE desktop will load in about 1 minute from the moment you start the boot medium.
Uses LXDE (Lightweight X11 Desktop Environment)
Because it uses LXDE (Lightweight X11 Desktop Environment), this Puppy Linux flavor is a lot faster, as it uses less RAM than any other open source desktop environment. Not to mention the fact that it uses a very stable kernel.
The LXDE desktop environment used in LxPup is pretty basic, comprised only of a single and transparent taskbar placed on the bottom edge of the screen, from where you can access the main menu, launch your favorite apps, switch between virtual workstations and interact with the system tray area.
Default applications
Default applications include the PCManFM file manager, Mozilla Firefox web browser, Sylpheed email client, Transmission torrent downloader, PuppyPhone internet telephone, PMirrorget website downloader, gFTP FTP client, XChat IRC client, GNOME MPlayer video player, pMusic audio player, and Gnumeric spreadsheet editor.
In addition, the distribution comes with AbiWord, ePDFView, Leafpad, PeasyPDF, puppyPDF, PZCHMView, Geany, Gcolor2, InkLite, mtPaint, PeasyGlue, PeasyPrint, PeasyScale, PeasyScan, PupCamera, Viewinor, Gdmap, GWhere, ROX-Filer, PRename, and many other applications and utilities.

All in all, it is a really fast Linux-based operating system that can be used on any type of computer, but especially on low-end systems.
