Lubit Linux

Lubit Linux is an open source Linux-based operating system built around the minimal and lightweight Openbox window manager. It is based on Ubuntu and designed from the ground up to be used by members of the Italian Linux community.

Availability and boot options

It is distributed as a single Live CD ISO image, tagged only for the 32-bit hardware platform (64-bit architectures are also supported). It can be written to a USB flash drive or burned onto a CD disc, which will be used for booting the live environment.

From the boot prompt, users can try the operating system without installing anything on their computers, run the live session using safe graphics mode, start a memory diagnostic test, or boot an existing OS installed on the first disk drive.

Minimalistic desktop environment and top-notch applications

The graphical environment is powered by the lightweight Openbox window manager. It is comprised of a single panel located on the upper part of the screen and a system monitoring widget.

The taskbar can be used to quickly switching between between the two virtual desktop environments, as well as to access the functions from the system tray area. If you want to access the main menu and launch applications, simply right click anywhere on the desktop.

Default applications include the PCManFM file manager, Leafpad text editor, Pidgin multi-protocol instant messenger, Mozilla Firefox web browser, AbiWord word processor, Gnumeric spreadsheet editor, GNOME MPlayer video player, and Audacious audio player.

It also comes with Xfburn CD/DVD burning software, guvcview webcam viewer, Transmission torrent downloader, LXTerminal terminal emulator, Disks disk manager, and Synaptic Package Manager for installing, updating or removing packages.
