LPinguy

LPinguy is an open-source operating system derived from the Ubuntu Linux distribution and designed as a lightweight alternative to the PinguyOS distro. It includes the GNOME Classic desktop environment and the Enlightenment window manager.

The distro is available for download as a 32-bit Live DVD image

You can download this distribution of Linux from Softoware as a 32-bit Live DVD ISO image that has approximately 1.5GB in size and supports both 32-bit (i386) and 64-bit (amd64) computers, despite the fact that it only runs on 32-bit applications.

You can use the live system without installing it

Being based on Ubuntu, the distribution features a standard boot menu that allows you to use the live system without installing it, performa fresh installation or a memory diagnostic test, boot from the local disk drive, as well as to run the live environment in safe graphics mode.

Features a chameleon design for the graphical desktop environment

At a first glance, LPinguy features displays a traditional designed comprised of a two-panel layout, but it also includes the launcher of the modern Unity interface, which is hidden by default.

It includes a plethora of open-source applications for a lightweight distribution

The operating system includes a plethora of open-source applications, despite the fact that it is advertised as a lightweight operating system. Among some of the most important apps, we can mention Pidgin IM client, FileZilla file transfer client, Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome web browsers, LibreOffice office suite, Rhythmbox music player, VLC Media Player and Synaptic Package Manager.

A distribution with tradition

All in all, LPinguy is a Linux distribution with tradition, derived from the PinguyOS operating system, which in turn is based on the world’s most popular distribution of Linux, and built around a carefully selected set of applications, as well as the GNOME, Unity and Enlightenment graphical environments.

What is new in this release:

• Added fully functional Unity2D bringing a better experience than that in Ubuntu 12.04.
• Added hot corners and edges just like in GNOME Shell.
• Keep all tools I used to build the OS for some future guides.

• Nothing was changed.
