LliureX Desktop

LliureX Desktop is a the official desktop edition of the Edubuntu-based LliureX operating system designed from the ground up to be used on educational institutions around the city of Valencia, Spain. The main language is Catalan, but the user can easily add support for many other languages.

Downloadable as 64-bit and 32-bit Live DVDs

The Desktop edition of LliureX Linux is also the main edition and it’s available for download as Live DVD ISO images of approximately 3GB in size each, designed for either 64-bit or 32-bit instruction set architectures.

Please note that in order to use these ISO images by booting them from the BIOS of a PC, the user must first write them on DVD discs or USB flash drives of 4GB or higher capacity.

Boot options

While the boot menu’s main goal is to help you try the operating system without installing anything on your computer, it will also allow you to boot an existing operating system from the first disk drive, perform a fresh installation, run a memory test, as well as to check the integrity of the bootable medium (only if using a DVD media).

Traditional, easy to use and fast desktop environment powered by GNOME

The default and only desktop environment of this open source operating system is GNOME, which comprises of a single taskbar located on the bottom edge of the screen, allowing users to easily find and launch their favorite applications, as well as to interact with them.

Default applications

Default applications include the Dia diagram editor, GIMP image editor, MuseScore music composition and notation software, Gummi LaTeX editor, LibreOffice office suite, Polly Twitter client, Mozilla Firefox web browser, Mozilla Thunderbird email and news client, Transmission torrent downloader and Pidgin instant messenger.

Bottom line

The Desktop edition of LliureX Linux is also the main edition of this Edubuntu-based operating system, on which all the other LliureX flavors are based.
