LessLinux Search and Rescue

LessLinux Search and Rescue is an open source and freely distributed operating system that can be successfully used for recovering lost data from damaged partitions, as well as to rescue a broken operating system that won't boot anymore.

Works with 32-bit or 64-bit-capable computers

The distribution can be downloaded from its official website or via Softoware (see link above) as a dual-arch Live DVD ISO image that has approximately 1GB in size and works with 32-bit or 64-bit-capable computers.

Multilingual and comprehensive Live DVD boot menu

The Live DVD boot menu will allow you to start the live system with default settings directly from the bootable medium (CD or USB) or by copying the contents of the ISO image to RAM (system memory) ejecting the media. Supported languages include English, German, Spanish, French, Polish and Russian.

In addition, you can boot the live system in safe mode with ACPI settings and VESA graphics at a specified video resolution, allow unsafe remote access through VNC or SSH, perform a RAM test, as well as to boot from the local drive.

Features a simple and modern desktop environment

LessLinux Search and Rescue features a simple and modern graphical desktop environment that is built around the minimal Openbox window manager and comprised of a dock (application launcher) located on the bottom edge of the screen and a system monitoring widget.

Top-notch applications are included by default

The user can safely surf the Internet with the powerful and secure Mozilla Firefox web browser, transfer files over FTP with FileZilla, manager passwords and secrets with KeePassX, mount WebDAV and CIFS shares, encrypt disk partitions with TrueCrypt and edit word documents with AbiWord.

Comes pre-loaded with several rescue and recovery tools

In addition, the Gnumeric spreadsheet editor, Zenmap and Wireshark network scanners, Clam Anti-Virus, QPhotoRec image and video recovery tool, Ekiga softphone, as well as Thunar and PCManFM file managers are also included.
