Ubuntu Kylin

Welcome to Ubuntu Kylin! This project aims to provide you with a special edition Ubuntu Linux, the world’s most popular free operating system, designed from the ground up for Chinese-speaking users. Ubuntu Kylin use Ubuntu's Unity user interface as the desktop environment and brings with it several applications designed for the Chinese community.

Available for 64-bit and 32-bit hardware architectures

Ubuntu Kylin 15.10 is distributed for free as two Live DVD hybrid-ISO images that are deployable on either USB flash drives of 2GB or higher capacity, or DVD discs. The ISO images can be used as is on either 32-bit (i386) or 64-bit (amd64) computers, without having to install anything on them. The Wily Werewolf edition of Ubuntu is supported with security fixes, software updates, and kernel patches for 9 months, until July 2016.

Unchanged boot options

By default, they will automatically start the live system with standard settings in exactly 10 seconds from the moment the user boots the ISO image from the BIOS of his/her computer. To access the boot options, press any key on your keyboard during the 10-second timeout.

The boot options of the Live DVDs remain unchanged from previous versions of Ubuntu Kylin. You can use them to start the live session, to install the OS directly (not recommended), to run a memory check, to verify the integrity of the bootable medium (only if booting from a DVD), as well as to boot an existing operating system from the first disk drive.

Unity desktop environment customized for Chinese-speaking users

As mentioned, Ubuntu Kylin keeps the Unity desktop environment of the Ubuntu Linux operating system, but it provides a highly customized version of it, specifically for Chinese-speaking users. As expected, Unity provides users with a futuristic interface that features the same layout seen in the standard Ubuntu Linux distribution, but adding three Scopes for Chines users, namely Chinese Music Search, Chinese Video Search, and Chinese Picture Search. A Chinese Weather Report Indicator is also available on the Unity Panel.

There are many apps for Chinese users

Being designed from the offset for the Chinese community, Ubuntu Kylin comes with several apps engineered for the Chinese-speaking users, such as the Kingsoft WPS office suite, the Kingsoft Kuaipan cloud storage app, the Youker Assistant system assistant, the Chinese Lunar calendar, the PPS Chinese TV streaming app, the Lotus instant messaging application, as well as Wine QQ.
