Greenie Linux 7th Anniversary Edition is a free and open source distribution of Linux, a very special edition of the Greenie Linux operating system released with the occasion of the 7th anniversary of the Greenie Linux project, which was initially created in September 2007. It is derived from the latest stable version of the Ubuntu Linux distribution and uses LXDE as its default desktop environment.

Distributed as a dual-arch Live DVD

The 7th Anniversary edition of Greenie Linux is available for download for free as a dual-arch Live DVD ISO image, which has approximately 1 GB in size and it is bootable on computers supporting either of the 32-bit (i386) or 64-bit (x86_64) instruction set architectures. It can be written on a DVD disc or a USB flash drive of 2GB or higher capacity.

Boot menu à la Ubuntu Linux

Being based on the Ubuntu OS, the Live DVD can be used to try the operating system without installing it, start the installer directly, perform a system memory diagnostic check, verify the integrity of the bootable medium (only if using a DVD disc), as well as to boot an existing operating system from the first disk drive detected by the BIOS.

LXDE looks great, includes lots of tweaks

As mentioned, the distribution uses LXDE as the default and only graphical desktop environment. It looks great and include lots of tweaks, such as a great and clean theme, as well as various useful applets for the taskbar, which is located on the bottom edge of the screen, allowing the user to easily navigate the main menu, launch applications, interact with running programs, cycle between virtual workspaces, as well as to access essential system functions.

Contains extra software packages

Greenie Linux 7th Anniversary Edition is a special edition, which means that it contains extra software packages. Among the most popular applications included in this distribution, we can mention the brand-new MEGAsync client, Synaptic Package Manager, Chromium, Midori and Mozilla Firefox, Skype, Mozilla Thunderbird, Transmission, Pidgin, GIMP, LibreOffice, and many web apps.
