gmusicbrowser is an open source project that provides users with a jukebox application whose sole purpose is it to handle music collections with over 10,000 tracks. It supports a wide range of audio files, including, but not limited to MP3, FLAC, OGG, MPC and APE. Its graphical user interface (GUI) is nearly identical with the one of the Guayadeque Music Player application.

Features at a glance

The application features support for multiple genres for each songs, a powerful track browser, a fully featured tag editor, basic mass tagging and renaming, and filter history in the browser window. It also features customizable window layouts and random mode. In numbers, the application can handle a personal music collection of approximately 25,000 songs.

Another interesting feature is the ability to restrict a playlist to a single artist or album, a task that can be easily activated using the integrated artist/album lock function. In addition, the program will allow users to set labels for each track, filter their music collection using unlimited nested conditions, or easily access songs related to the currently playing artist, album or track.

Offers a powerful plugin architecture

A plugin system will extend the default functionality of the application. Among the included add-ins, we can mention support for Last.fm, lyrics downloader, artwork finder, now playing and WebContext. System tray area support is also integrated into gmusicbrowser, allowing users to easily and quickly control the playback functionality (stop, start, skip, next, previous, mute, rate, shuffle). Editing the app’s settings, filter the playlist, or open the browser window is also possible from the tip window of the tray icon.

Bottom line

If you use Linux, and if you own a huge collection of music files, then we strongly suggest to use the gmusicbrowser application. Or you could try the Guayadeque Music Player software, because it's much more popular.
