Fluxbuntu is an open source distribution of Linux based on the world’s most popular free operating system, Ubuntu, and built around the lightweight Fluxbox window manager. It provides users with a LPAE-standard compliant and minimal OS for low-end machines.
The project has been discontinued in the year 2008, soon after its first release. It never got the chance to see a stable release or became an official Ubuntu flavor, most probably because of lack of interest in the Fluxbox window manager.
Distributed as a 32-bit Live CD
It is distributed as a single Live CD ISO image that supports only the 32-bit (i386) instruction set architecture and it’s still available for download on various BitTorrent websites. The ISO image can be burned onto a blank CD disc or written to a USB thumb drive, which can be used to test or install the OS.Includes a wide variety of open-source applications
In Fluxbuntu, users will be able to manage their files with the standard ROX-Filer file manager, browse the Internet with the Kazehakase web browser, connect to various IM protocols using the Pidgin instant messenger application, as well as to write text using the simple Leafpad text editor or the more complex AbiWord word processor. In addition, you can execute various CLI commands using the XTerm terminal emulator software (with or without Unicode support), create informal diagrams with Dia, send emails with the Claws Mail software, listen to music using the XMMS audio player, as well as to watch movies with VLC Media Player.
Viewing PDF documents and image files is also possible with the Xpdf and xZGV applications respectively. Additionally, the Synaptic Package Manager application is also included, just in case you want to install extra packages or update/remove existing ones.
