FileBot

FileBot is one of the most powerful graphical applications that empowers users to easily and quickly rename TV shows, movies or anime. The application also incorporates a subtitle downloader utility and has been designed to support all mainstream operating systems and platforms.

Features at a glance

Key features include a simple user-interface crafted for dragging and dropping of files, the ability to rename hundreds of media files in only a few seconds, fetch episode, movies and music lists from AniDB, TheTVDB and MusicBrainz, and download and upload subtitles from OpenSubtitles.

In addition, the application allows users to find linked/exact subtitles from the OpenSubtitles website, as well as to generate and verify MD5, SHA1 and SFV files. It is an open source, smart, simple and streamlined software distributed for free on Softoware.

Its graphical user interface looks the same on all supported OSes and allows users to easily rename one or multiple files with a couple of mouse clicks. It features tabs, so you can easily navigate between the List, Rename, Analyze, Episodes, Subtitles and SFV sections of the application.

Under the hood and supported OSes

The program is written entirely in the Groovy and Java programming language, using the Java Swing technology for its graphical user interface, which means that it’s a cross-platform application supporting all GNU/Linux distributions, as well as the Mac OS X and Microsoft Windows operating systems.

Availability and supported architectures

Users can download FileBot as pre-built binary packages for their Ubuntu or Debian based operating systems, supporting both 32-bit and 64-bit hardware architectures. For other GNU/Linux platforms, you can download and compile the sources archive or use the packages from the default software repositories of your distribution.

In May 2013, FileBot received the “Project of the Month” award from the well-known SourceForge website.
