E-Debian GNU/Linux is a free and open source distribution of Linux derived from the award-winning and highly acclaimed Debian GNU/Linux operating system, built around the controversial and modern GNOME graphical desktop environment.
Its main design goal is to be as easy-to-use and user-friendly as possible, containing all the common Wireless drivers that are used on today’s computers, as well as a great selection of software packages.
Distributed as a 32-bit Live DVD
At the moment, E-Debian GNU/Linux is available for download on Softoware as a Live DVD ISO image that has approximately 2 GB in size and contains software packages optimized only for 32-bit hardware platforms, which means that it can be deployed on DVD discs or USB thumb drives that are bootable on both 32-bit and 64-bit computers.
Boot options
The distribution boasts a simple, standard boot menu that includes the ability to start the live system with normal configuration or in failsafe mode, perform a system memory (RAM) diagnostic test, as well as to boot an existing operating system from the local disk drive.
GNOME is in charge of the graphical session
Currently, the distro uses the GNOME desktop environment for its default graphical session. The desktop is simple at a first glance, using a classic two-panel layout. Users will be able to quickly access the pre-installed apps and other essential functions via the upper panel, as well as to interact with running programs and cycle between virtual workspaces via the bottom panel.
Default applications
Default applications include the Empathy multi-protocol instant messenger, Iceweasel web browser, Transmission torrent downloader, Evolution email and calendar client, Cheese webcam viewer, VLC Media Player, XBMC Media Center, Rhythmbox music player, Totem movie player, BleachBit system cleaner, LibreOffice office suite, GIMP image editor, Inkscape vector graphics editor, Shotwell image viewer and organizer, Gedit and Leafpad text editors, Wine and Synaptic Package Manager.
