Ctpp is an open source and freely distributed command-line software implemented in C and designed from the ground up to provide Object Oriented (OO) extensions for the C language, as well as a C99-compatible C preprocessor for the ctalk language.

The software is compatible with the GNU cpp application and offers several C extensions, such as macro expansion in error and warning messages, built-in symbol definition for several command-line options, as well as saving expanded macros to files.

Ctalk can be used for network, GUI (Graphical User Interface), systems programs, client/server, or traditional object oriented simulations. The preprocessor can be downloaded separately.

Getting started with Ctpp

To install and use the Ctpp program on your GNU/Linux operating system, you will have to download the latest version of the project from Softoware or via it’s official website (see link at the end of the article), save it on a location of your choice, extract its contents using an archive manager utility, and open a terminal emulator application.

In the Terminal app, navigate to the location of the extracted archive files using the ‘cd’ command (e.g. cd /home/softoware/ctalk-0.0.55), run the ‘./configure --help’ command to view the available options for optimizing the program for a specific architecture or operating system.

Then, after a successful configuration, run the ‘make’ command to compile Ctpp and create a binary executable that can be easily installed system wide by running the ‘sudo make install’ command as a privileged user or the ‘make install’ command as root.

Under the hood

Taking a look under the hood of the Ctpp project, we can notice that the software has been written entirely in the C programming language. It is supported on all GNU/Linux operating systems, fully compatible with 64-bit and 32-bit instruction set architectures.

What is new in this release:
