Cdwrite is the shell for creation of data and audio disks, including compilations. It allows to use pregaps and recognizes indices.

The shell needs mkisofs and cdrecord for data and cdparanoia, cdda2wav, cdrdao, and -- optionally -- lame for audio.

What is new in this release:

  • This version improves the functions creating the ISO images; now they accept the directory names containing spaces.
  • The shell and the scripts were roughly tested in Slackware Linux 13.37 and Linux Mint 13 Maya.

What is new in version 3.3:

  • The shell allows you to use the mp3gain program to normalize MP3 files without decoding and encoding them.
  • Normalization of FLAC, MP3, OGG, and WAV files is possible, either as separate tracks or as a whole album.
  • The shell looks for the configuration file cdwrite.conf in the standard /etc directory instead of the non-standard /usr/etc one.
  • The new variable mp3_normalization is added to the configuration file.
  • The shell and the scripts were roughly tested with Slackware Linux 13.37 and Linux Mint 11 Katya.

What is new in version 3.2:

  • This version introduces: encoding of WAV files or CDs to FLAC files; audio file conversion from APE, FLAC, M4A, MP3, MPC, OGG, WAV, or WMA formats to FLAC, MP3, OGG, or WAV ones; the normalization of FLAC, MP3, OGG, and WAV files volume levels; and a simple player playing audio files and audio CDs.
  • The new musica script performs thirty one audio files conversions, and a new cdencode script allows use of the FLAC format.
  • The configuration file includes a FLAC compression setting and MPlayer speed and cache settings.

What is new in version 3.1:

  • This version introduces new features such as writing CD text on audio CDs using CDDB data, encoding WAV files or audio CDs to Ogg files, and remembering changed settings for speed, ripper, encoder, bitrates, and qualities, as well as help entries added to the main menu and its four submenus.
  • The configuration file includes new options such as: settings for the default ripper and encoder or settings for default LAME and oggenc bitrates and qualities.
  • The shell was tested in Slackware Linux 13.1 and in Linux Mint 10 Julia.
