CCbuntu is an open source distribution of Linux based on the world’s most popular free operating system and built around the GNOME 2 desktop interface, which is also used with success in the upstream Ubuntu distribution. It includes a great collection of open source applications that are very useful to the Chinese community.
Distributed as a dual-arch Live DVD
The OS can be downloaded via Softoware or from its official website as a single, dual-arch Live DVD ISO image of approximately 1GB in size, designed to be used from on either a DVD disc or USB flash drive. Supported architectures include 64-bit (x86_64) and 32-bit (i386).
Boot options
Among the boot options provided by the Live DVD, we can mention the ability to try the operating system without installing anything, directly start the installer, boot the live environment in textonly mode or without boot splash screen, run a memory test, as well as to boot an existing OS from the first disk.
GNOME-powered desktop environment for Chinese-speaking users
As mentioned, the default and only desktop environment of CCbuntu is GNOME 2, which uses a classic two-panel layout. While the top panel is mainly used for launching applications, you can interact with running programs and cycle between virtual workspaces from the bottom panel.

Default applications include the OpenOffice.org office suite, Evolution email and calendar client, Gwibber social networking client, Transmission torrent downloader, Mozilla Firefox web browser, Comix comic book viewer, GNOME MPlayer video player, Brasero CD/DVD burning software, PiTiVi video editor, Rhythmbox music player, SMPlayer video player, DOSBox emulator and Wine.
Bottom line
Summing up, CCbuntu is a decent operating system that comes with built-in support for the Chinese language, a great selection of open source applications, and the GNOME 2 classic desktop environment, all on top of a stable Ubuntu base. However, we remind users that it is based on an Ubuntu version that is no longer supported!
