Caixa Magica

Caixa Magica is a freely distributable Linux operating system for i586 and x86_64 processors, and suitable for both desktop and server machines. It was initially based on the openSUSE and Mandriva Linux distributions. These days, the distribution is based on the well known Ubuntu Linux operating system and built around the GNOME desktop environment. It is distributed as two Live DVD ISO images, one for each of the supported architectures.

Designed for Portuguese-speaking users

The main language for this Linux operating system is Portuguese, but you can easily change that from the boot medium, which can also be used by advanced users to add various kernel parameters. You can also boot the currently installed operating system or test the RAM (Random Access Memory) of your computer using the entries provided on the boot menu. In addition, users can install Caixa Magica without testing it first (not recommended for novice users).

An easy-to-use desktop environment

The distribution provides users with a an easy-to-use desktop environment, as well as custom configuration utilities, intuitive installation, improved hardware detection and support, and convenient software installation.

Default applications

Among the default applications, we can mention the Nautilus file manager, Mozilla Thunderbird email client, Rhythmbox music/radio player, Shotwell image viewer and organizer, Skype, LibreOffice office suite, GIMP image editor, and Mozilla Firefox web browser.

Additionally, it also includes various powerful utilities like the FileZilla FTP client, Google Drive client, Dropbox client, Ekiga softphone software, Audio Tag Tool, EasyTag audio tagging tool, Wine, Boot Repair, Evolution personal information management suite, Gedit text editor, Transmission BitTorrent client, and several games.

Comes pre-loaded with various apps for Portuguese users

Besides the built-in support for the Portuguese language, the distribution also includes Portugal eID Gui, a Portuguese identification card management software. It is a stable Linux operating system that can be used by anyone who digs the GNOME desktop environment, and it’s not only for Portuguese users!
