As its name suggests, Bayanihan Linux Government Edition is a special edition of the Bayanihan Linux operating system designed from the ground up to be deployed on government computers. It features an OpenOffice.org office suite optimized for offices. KDE is the default graphical desktop environment.

It is available for download as a Live CD, as well as two Installer CDs

The main difference between the Desktop and Government editions of Bayanihan Linux, is that the latter is available for download as a Live CD, as well as two Installer CD ISO images, one for the i486 architecture and another one for i686 hardware platforms.

The boot menu includes three options

The boot menu of the Live CD includes only three options, the ability to start the live system with a default kernel, boot the operating system in safe graphics mode, in case the first option doesn’t detect your graphics card, as well as to perform a system memory (RAM) diagnostic test.

Uses KDE 3.5 as the default graphical desktop

Bayanihan Linux Government Edition’s default and only desktop environment is powered by KDE 3.5, which has been tweaked to look like an Windows XP desktop session. It comprises of a single taskbar located on the bottom edge of the screen, allowing the user to easily launch apps or interact with running programs.

Contains mostly KDE-specific applications

Being built around KDE, the distribution contains mostly KDE-specific applications. In addition, the GIMP image editor, Mozilla Firefox web browser, Ekiga softphone, Pidgin multi-protocol instant messenger, OpenOffice.org office suite, Synaptic Package Manager and Wine applications are also included.

Minimum hardware requirements

To run the Bayanihan Linux Government Edition operating system, you will need a computer with a 500MHz Pentium-class processor or better, at least 256MB of RAM, at least 5GB free drive space, a monitor capable of at least SVGA resolution, as well as standard keyboard and mouse peripherals.
