Due to its complexity, most developers tend to avoid using the Atmosphere Framework for their applications, but the framework is a solid product endorsed by many companies around the web that have trusted it in live production environments. This includes Atlassian, VMWare, and the Wall Street Journal.
The framework allows developers to write applications that work asynchronously, sending data between the server and the client in real-time via WebScokets, and via an alternative fallback mechanism where WebScokets support is missing.
It can be used in dynamically scaled applications and even comes with support for cloud environments also.
The framework itself can be used with other Java frameworks as well, and can also be enhanced via extensions.
