The Redirection plugin for WordPress comes with two separate features.
One is for setting up and managing 301 server redirections, often used when changing a site's URL pattern or when migrating to new domains.
The second is for tracking 404 errors, helping developers monitor broken links and the permalinks they accessed.
The Redirection plugin creates a special page in the WP admin where all these can be setup, supporting 302 and 307 server redirects as well.
Redirects can be created manually by admins, where the plugin can be setup to manage them automatically whenever a post or page's URL changes.
There's no need to tinker with the .htaccess file for this plugin to work, and Redirection can also be used to interlink www and non-www URLs.
There are also redirection filters available, a feature that lets admins redirect users based on a series of criteria like logged-in status, referrer status, and so on.
Details for each 301 redirection is recorded, helping webmasters collect a series of statistics that might help them later on.
