BruteProtect works by keeping track of successive failed login attempts.
If a large number of failed login attempts from one IP is recorded in a very short period of time, the plugin deems that IP as being from a login bot and bans it from accessing the site.
Because data from all the users that have this plugin installed is tracked and centralized, all of them benefit from a shared database of known brute-force login bots and can help protect their site better than with regular brute-force protection plugins that aggregate data from one single source.
BruteProtect also supports multi-site WP installations.
Installation:
Unpack and upload it to the /wp-content/plugins/ directory.
Activate the plugin through the 'Plugins' menu in WordPress.
