prcs2hg

prcs2hg is a completely free, open source and cross-platform command-line software implemented in Python and designed to be used for converting a PRCS (Project Revision Control System) project to Mercurial revisions.

The program is usually used to easily migrate source code that is stored in a Project Revision Control System to the Mercurial version control system, as well as to publish revision history for a deprecated project.

Upcoming versions of the project will bring support for keeping all the revision history of a project, including merges. The software has been previously implemented in the Perl programming language.

Getting started with prcs2hg

To install and use the prcs2hg software on your GNU/Linux distribution, you must first download the latest version of the project from Softoware, where it is distributed free of charge as a tarball (TAR archive).

Save the archive somewhere on your PC, use an archive manager utility to extract the files and folders contained in the tarball of the project, open a terminal emulator application and navigate to the location where the ‘prcs2hg-1.0x1’ directory was extracted (e.g. cd /home/softoware/prcs2hg-1.0x1).

Then, run the ‘sudo python setup.py install’ command to install prcs2hg system wide. In order to use this program to extract project versions from a PRCS repository, you must also have the prcs command installed on your computer. Under the hood and supported operating systems

Looking under the hood of the prcs2hg, we can notice that the entire program has been written in the Python programming language. It has been successfully tested with several distributions of Linux, as well as with Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X operating systems. Currently, prcs2hg works on 64-bit and 32-bit hardware platforms.
