Dark Fragments is a modification of kreator_theme 1.0.5.

It is meant for Unity and Global Menus. Because currently, the global menu does not respect the GTK's close, minimize, and maximize buttons, I have created a theme with those buttons, so at least it is continuous.

It is similar to my other theme Dark Squares: http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Dark+Squares?content=142481 but with a different pattern.

Installation:

1) Just drag the tar.gz file onto the appearances window.
2) By default, the top panel is aligned for a unity launcher of 48px wide.
3) I think that the launcher looks best at 32px, so I have also created a panel background for 32px. Use compizconfig-settings-manager (ccsm) to change the launcher size, and then run the following commands:

mv ~/.themes/Dark\ Fragments/gtk-2.0/Panel/panel-bg.png ~/.themes/Dark\ Fragments/gtk-2.0/Panel/panel-bg-48px.png
mv ~/.themes/Dark\ Fragments/gtk-2.0/Panel/panel-bg-32px.png ~/.themes/Dark\ Fragments/gtk-2.0/Panel/panel-bg.png

4) There is a bug with Unity that the top panel image gets muddled after logging out. I have written a script to fix this. Add it (~/.themes/Dark\ Fragments/panel_opacity.scr) to your startup programs with gnome-session-properties. All it does is modify the opacity of the top panel, and then put it back.

About GNOME:

GNOME is an international effort to build a complete desktop environment—the graphical user interface which sits on top of a computer operating system—entirely from free software. This goal includes creating software development frameworks, selecting application software for the desktop, and working on the programs which manage application launching, file handling, and window and task management.

GNOME is part of the GNU Project and can be used with various Unix-like operating systems, most notably Linux, and as part of Java Desktop System in Solaris.

The name originally stood for GNU Network Object Model Environment, though this acronym is deprecated. The GNOME project puts heavy emphasis on simplicity, usability, and making things “just work”.

Requirements:

  • gtk+
  • GNOME
