VSIDO is an open source Linux distribution based on the well known Debian GNU/Linux operating system and designed to provide users with a productive, flexible and secure computing environment. Using Debian's latest Linux kernel packages, and it is distributed as Live DVD ISO images for each of the two supported architectures, 64-bit and 32-bit.
Boot options
The boot menu is the same for both Live CDs and lets users to boot the live environment with default settings or in failsafe mode, boot the operating system that is currently installed, as well as to test the computer’s system memory (RAM) for errors.
Uses the Fluxbox window manager
The “Live” option is the recommended and default choice. VSIDO’s session is powered by the lightweight Fluxbox window manager, which is quite similar with the Openbox desktop environment. It boasts a clean and darkish desktop experience comprised of Lxpanel as the default panel, located at the bottom edge of the screen, and a taskbar with a system monitoring widget on the top.
Default applications
SpaceFM is the default file manager, Iceweasel takes care of all your Internet habits, SMPlayer can be used to watch video files, Audacity is also there for editing audio files, and GMusicBrowser provides a jukebox for large collections of music files. Among other pre-installed applications, we can mention Pithos Pandora front-end, Xfburn CD/DVD burning software, Aptitude package manager, Synaptic Package Manager, GParted disk partitioning tool, BootUp Manager, BleachBit system cleaner, FileZilla FTP client, Mirage image viewer, Medit text editor, Tea text editor, Htop, XChar IRC client, Wicd network manager, and a terminal emulator.
Uses a rolling-release model
Another interesting feature is the rolling-release model, which means that your system will always be up-to-date. However, we feel obliged to call VSIDO a Linux distribution for hackers and developers. In no way it can be used by novice Linux users as a daily computing environment.
